Hank Adams: Medical-malpractice reform
01:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, June 30, 2009
A major cause of escalating health-care costs is that we have not put in place any significant tort reform. It is time for our judges nationally to minimize the out-of-control jury awards in many health-care-related cases.
Ask any good doctor about the cost of malpractice insurance. Many of our top surgeons have stopped operating and returned to teaching. If a doctor or hospital did screw up, than certainly restitution is justified. However, judges must learn to judge properly and run their courtrooms reasonably and professionally, and embrace common sense.
