No to Question 7
01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, October 15, 2006
If the State of Rhode Island were in a position to finance everything nice, we would favor approving Question 7 on the Nov. 7 ballot. This would authorize selling $4 million in bonds to continue restoring Fort Adams, in Newport, and to add to the recreational facilities there, at a total cost, including interest, of $7 million.
But these are tight times for state finances. So the City by the Sea is the most appropriate source now for funds to make the improvements, with help from the private groups that use Fort Adams. We are not convinced that the proposed improvements require state taxpayers to dig deeper into their pockets under current circumstances. No to Question 7.
