Editorial: Picky eaters

As most have noticed, the soaring price of oil has indirectly and directly caused a surge in food prices. Even fancy colleges and universities are looking for ways to save money while feeding students. But it’s difficult because their students, who are being annually charged about the equivalent of the U.S. median family income to attend them, have come to expect only the best. Look at some of the dorms, which resemble fancy hotels.
The Associated Press, for example, reports that even Harvard tried to yank whole-grain pasta from the menu to save money. But the kids wouldn’t tolerate any such lese majeste, and the stuff is back on the table..
As long as the applications keep rolling in, such places for the privileged will resist the demands posed by rising prices in the “real world.”
