Blogs at 10
01:00 AM EDT on Friday, September 14, 2007
The Wall Street Journal recently reminded us that blogs have now been around for about a decade. Have they made for more informed, more thoughtful, more interesting and interested citizens? Well, maybe the last two, though even that’s debatable.
One could argue that blogs’ main effect has been to create ever more factories for manufacturing misinformation and misplaced emotion. But, yes, they also provide many more “places” where erroneous or misleading reporting and illogical assertions can be corrected quickly.
Thank God, given the baloney put out by so many blogs. Far more baloney is being churned out, and there are more baloney-correction devices. However, the latter is very hard-pressed to keep up with the former.
Maybe blogs’ second decade will look better.
