Johnston HEALTH NEWS Blood drives: Two blood drives have been scheduled this month. The first will be held tomorrow. The Rhode Island Blood Center's donor coach will be at Home Depot, Atwood Avenue, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The second will be held April 26 in St. Rocco Church Basement, 927 Atwood Ave., from 3 to 8 p.m. SENIOR NEWS Seniors activities: Johnston Manton Seniors recently announced activities for this month. The group will take a trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino on Tuesday. The fee is $55 per person. The tour includes admission to The Debbie Reynolds Show, time in the casino and transportation. Included in the fee is a $15 buffet and $15 in bets. The bus will leave from Lombardi's 1025 Take Out parking lot, Plainfield Street, at 8:30 a.m. Johnston Manton Seniors will meet Wednesday, at 12:30 p.m., in Lombardi's 1025 Club, Plainfield Street. A trip to Foxwoods Resort and Casino has been scheduled for April 19. The fee is $17 per person. The bus will leave from Lombardi's 1025 Take Out parking lot at 8:15 a.m. The fee includes a $10 food voucher and $15 to play Keno. Bingo is available. The group has planned an April 26 trip to The Aqua Turf, Plantville, Conn. The trip is $55 per person and includes transportation, dinner and a show, A Tribute to the Rat Pack. The bus will leave from Lombardi's 1025 Take Out parking lot, Plainfield Street, at 8:30 a.m. Non-members are welcome to join all trips. Trips are escorted and the cost includes all gratuities. For information or reservations, contact Lorie DeVito at (401) 232-2645. Aime J. Forand Senior Citizens: The Aime J. Forand Seniors annual May breakfast will be held May 7 at Home Town Buffet, Route 2, Warwick, starting at 9 a.m. This is a free party for all members in good standing. The group's annual picnic will be held June 16, in Johnston Memorial Park, Hartford Avenue, at 11 a.m. The fee is $10 for members and $32 for guests. The fee includes lunch and dinner, with a choice of lobster or steak. Members should sign up for the event at the next meeting, which will be held April 18 at 1:30 p.m., in the Vincent Piccoli Community Hall, 8 Forand Circle. Bingo, which is open to the public, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on April 18 in the Vincent Piccoli Community Hall. Pocasset Bay Manor: Joan Brown, of Attleboro Fitness Therapy Center, will conduct an hourlong program on fitness fun and staying stress-free Tuesday at Pocasset Bay Manor, 12 Old Pocasset Lane. The program will begin at 2:30 p.m. Susan Sacoccia, of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Rhode Island, will give a seminar on Plan 65 and answer questions, Thursday from 3 to 4 p.m. Channel 6 Meteorologist Steve Cascione will visit April 21, at 1:15. He will greet residents and speak. The LiveWell Program with Pat Boulay Fitness Company of North Kingstown will be held April 28 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Residents can learn how to stay healthy. AT THE LIBRARY Open house: The Marian J. Mohr Memorial Library, 1 Memorial Ave., will hold an open house in honor of National Library Week 2005 from Monday, April 11 through Thursday, April 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. Participants are invited to come take a tour, get a library card, view the plans for the new library and learn what the library has to offer. The library is looking for serious teen writers for its creative writers group meeting April 12 from 3 to 4 p.m. Teens are asked to bring their writings to share with others and gain feedback and to bring their submissions for the magazine. To kick off National Library Week, the library will join with Contempo Coffee for a Teen Poetry Night. The event will take place April 10 from 6 to 8 p.m., at Contempo Coffee, 1428 Hartford Ave. Teens can bring poems to share or just listen to the readings. A Teen Hula-Hoop contest will be held at the library April 26 at 3 p.m. as part of humor month. Everyone will get a prize, but the one who can hula the longest wins an additional prize. Tweens and teens can celebrate Earth Day by creating a painting on recycled jars April 22 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. All supplies will be included. The event is open to those 11 and older. SPORTS Coaches meeting: The Johnston Girls Softball monthly coaches meeting will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Nicholas A. Ferri Middle School, 10 Memorial Ave. All coaches are urged to attend and parents are welcome. |
