Woonsocket man charged with stealing baby formula
06/19/2003
NORTH PROVIDENCE -- Police arrested a man for shoplifting 10 cans of baby formula on Monday, said Capt. Paul Marino.
The police received a call from Stop & Shop complaining of a shoplifting and describing three men fleeing in a grey pickup truck around 11:30, Marino said. Officer Michelle Cyr was dispatched to the store, but before she arrived, Sgt. Michael Ciresi stopped the truck at a nearby Walgreens, at 1074 Mineral Spring Ave., Marino said.
Together, Ciresi and Cyr detained the three men until a Stop & Shop security guard arrived and identified one of them as the shoplifter, Marino said.
Joseph Lataille, 23, of 17 Briens Court, Woonsocket, was arrested and charged with shoplifting the baby formula, which had a value of $110, Marino said.
Because Lataille had been convicted of shoplifting in 2002, the charge was a felony, Marino said.
Lataille was arraigned on Monday and released on bail, Marino said.
