Why 18-Year-Olds Should Vote

By Samantha Sanzaro

Second place essay, grades 3-5

I suppose you believe that voting is a waste of time. I bet you leave all the work to your parents. Well, stop! Take action and make your own choices!

One reason 18-year-olds should vote is because you could pick a president that’s anti-war and be saving yourself and your friends from war. Being away from war means spending more time with your family. Now if you vote that’s what you can be doing.

Another reason 18-year-olds should vote is because if you pick a good president and one that cares for the environment, then he/she can help stop pollution. Pollution can be very harmful to our earth. Pollution can lead up to global warming, less oxygen, and so on. With all your votes and a great president, this process will move along even quicker.

Lastly, it is a great responsibility. With all these privileges and actions, we need to have responsibility. Voting takes many levels of responsibility. I’m sure when you were young children, you didn’t like responsibility; you just wanted your parents to hopefully take the responsibilities. Well not now, because now you need to own up to your actions and take that great big responsibility.

I think voting is great. It’s a time when we get to show our opinion in this big decision. We can all do our parts. So why not vote?
