Essay on 18-year-old voters

By Amanda Interlini

First place essay, Middle School

Every four years around November, the political news is buzzing. It’s election time! You know what that means — all the action and stress of questions, rumors and statements. These candidates, trying to become president, put their lives at stake to commit to all the curve balls and media action. After the remaining candidates are chosen, it is time to choose the president.

Having the privilege to vote is a big responsibility. That is why, being under age 18, I feel that all 18-year-olds should honor their civic obligation and take it upon themselves to vote. I feel that if we have the opportunity to choose who will be running our country and keeping it safe, then we must take advantage of it. Many people today, especially the people just turning 18, don’t vote. All we as Americans can do is keep encouraging others to vote. I would like to thank all the people who did vote this year. We all appreciate it.
