Where to go to get help finding work

Robert F. Evangelista, a veterans employment representative at the West Warwick netWORKri center, at 1330 Main St., is available to assist all veterans in his area with opportunities for job training, counseling, job placement and employment.

Call him at (401) 828-8139 between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday or between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday. He can also be reached by fax at (401) 826-8991 or by e-mail at r.evangelista@networkri.org.

Each of the five Rhode Island netWORKri centers has computer access to job-related Web sites and space for you to work on resumés and cover letters. Copy machines, fax machines and telephones are available to outreach to employers, and copies of your resumé will be supplied to you. A variety of workshops will help you with resumé writing, interviewing skills, dressing for success and basic computer skills in order to make your employment chances better.

Armed Services Night June 16 at McCoy Stadium

The 30th-annual Armed Services Night honoring our veterans and active military will be held June 16 at McCoy Stadium, where the PawSox will host the Charlotte Knights.

Pregame ceremonies start at 6:15 p.m. with the game to follow at 7:05. Music will be provided by the 88th Army Band before and during the ceremony, and a military flyover by the Rhode Island Army National Guard will highlight the event.

Tickets are $3.50 and can be purchased from the Rhode Island Guard and most veterans organizations throughout the state or call the PawSox at (401) 724-7300. Also, tickets may be purchased on game night at Gate A.

Need help with forms?

Disabled American Veterans service officers Rick Vaccari and Justin Hart will be available to help file claims for Department of Veterans Affairs compensation at several outreach locations in June. Assistance will be provided at the Warwick Vet Center, 2038 Warwick Ave., on June 11 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.; at the Hyannis (Mass.) Outpatient Clinic, 233 Stevens Rd., on June 19 from 9 a.m. to noon; and, at the New Bedford Vet Center, 468 North St., on June 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The help is free and no appointment is necessary.

Fishing for food

A Fish for Vets Tournament and Food Drive will be held from 7 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Sunday at 1 p.m. at Common Fence Point off Route 24 in Portsmouth, for members and guests of the Aquidneck Island Striper Team. Registration is $5 and sign-ups are free at www.AIStriperTeam.webs.com.

All caught fish will be donated to the Portsmouth VFW Alvaro Vieira Post 5390, 822 Anthony Rd., for distribution to needy veterans and their families. Nonperishable food items can be donated Sunday at the Vieira Post. All legally caught fish of all species will be accepted for the food drive; the largest striper caught will win the tournament. The Veterans Affairs Permanent Advisory Council to the House of Representatives meets at 10 a.m. Monday in State House Room 135.

•Disabled American Veterans

Lawson-Raiola Chapter 15 Post will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bisbano Building North at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, Metacom Avenue, Bristol; Mount Pleasant Chapter 21 will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Dillon Council hall, 1675 Douglas Ave., North Providence.

•Korean War Veterans

West Bay Chapter 2 will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m.in VFW Post 449, 197 Providence St., West Warwick. Northern R.I. Chapter 3 will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Chepachet Senior Center, 1210 Putnam Pike.

•Coast Guard Auxiliary

Flotilla 78 will meet Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Aspray Boathouse, Pawtuxet Village, Warwick.

•American Legion

Scituate Post 19 will meet Friday at 7 p.m. in the North Scituate Community House. Tthe Post is also hosting a fundraiser cruise night open to the public with raffles and prizes on Wednesday, from 5 to 9 p.m., behind the Scituate village gazebo; for more information, call Russ at (401) 647-7092. Post 39 will meet Thursday at 7 p.m., at 1958 Post Rd. in Peace Dale.

•Reserve Officers Association

The department executive committee will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. in Harwood Army Reserve Center, 385 Niagara St., Providence.
