Meet with Whitehouse, Langevin this week
01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, June 28, 2009
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse and U.S. Rep. James Langevin are both planning events this week to meet with constituents.
Langevin will be visiting several locations in Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood Tuesday.
“There are many difficult issues facing our nation and it is more important than ever that I be accessible for people to tell me their concerns and ask questions,” Langevin said in a statement.
Langevin will be at the following locations in Providence Tuesday:
•10 to 11 a.m., The Steel Yard, 27 Sims Ave.
•12:30 to 1:30 p.m., El Rancho Grande restaurant, 311 Plainfield St.
•2 to 3 p.m. Olneyville Housing Corporation, Riverside Park, Aleppo Street.
•7 to 8 p.m. Community question and answer session at the Cathedral of Life Church, 1860 Westminster St.
Whitehouse will host two community dinners to hear Rhode Islanders’ concerns and stories about problems in the nation’s health-care system and how to fix them.
“Over and over, at community dinners, at senior centers, and in letters from Rhode Islanders, I’ve seen the health-care crisis hit home,” he said in a statement.
Whitehouse was recently named to serve temporarily on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, one of the two key committees involved in drafting the health-care reform bill.
The first community dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Lusitania Club, 10 Chase St., Cumberland.
The second will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Portuguese American Vasco da Gama Holy Ghost Society Hall, 15 Fenner St., Newport.
Those interested in attending either dinner can call (401) 453-5294, e-mail the senator at rsvp_whitehouse@whitehouse.senate.gov, or visit Whitehouse’s Web site: whitehouse.senate.gov/services/dinners/
