Restocking Shellfish in Ninigret Pond
01:00 AM EDT on Friday, May 9, 2008

Some 20,000 pounds of shellfish were transplanted to Ninigret Pond yesterday as part of a shellfish and eelgrass restoration effort in the area’s salt ponds. The clams act as a filter, improving the water’s quality. Volunteers Mac Richardson of Charlestown and Anna Pfeiffer-Hebert of Providence help load the shellfish onto a boat for distribution. Looking on at right is Greg Mannesto of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
