Storm produces slick roads across state
01:00 AM EST on Thursday, February 19, 2009
Last night’s winter storm produced a small amount of snow over most of the state, but created havoc on the roads in Foster and Glocester. Foster police said they had to close down Route 6, Danielson Pike, three times between 7 and 9 p.m. as they tried to deal with numerous cars that skidded off the road.
A dispatcher in Glocester said the snow brought “chaos” to most of the town roads, with cars stuck “all over the place.” One of the affected roads was Anan Wade Road, north of Route 101, where traffic backed up because of cars unable to make an incline.
Lt. Frank Sullivan, officer in charge at the Rhode Island State Police, said the storm produced numerous minor accidents and spin-outs, particularly in Lincoln and Hope Valley. The storm brought pouring rain to Block Island, where temperatures reached 40 degrees.
