Verizon taps 5 in contest for ad spots

PROVIDENCE — Verizon announced five local winners last night in its “Be Famous with Verizon FiOS” campaign who will appear in promotional campaigns later this year for the telecommunications company.
American Idol finalist Ayla Brown, Miss Rhode Island Ashley Bickford and Channel 12 anchor Karen Adams served as judges and helped select the winners from a field of 20 finalists at the Verizon Jazz Stage at WaterFire.
The winners are:
•Alisha El-Machiah, 19, of Providence, a sophomore at Johnson & Wales University.
•Kevin Kenny, 19, of Providence, a junior at Johnson & Wales.
•Lillie O’Connell, 16, a junior at Cumberland High School.
•Ryan Plonka, 24, a Cumberland native who now lives in Los Angeles.
•Christina Wilkicki, 24, of West Warwick.
More than 850 people auditioned for the campaign, which promotes Verizon’s new fiber-optic television service.
