Green Airport sees more flights

WARWICK — The holidays and New Englanders’ hankering for warmer weather are two reasons that T.F. Green Airport will see a slight increase in airline service over the next few months.

Airport officials announced this week that U.S. Airways is increasing its daily departures to LaGuardia Airport in New York from four to six per day, and that beginning in March, Southwest Airlines will increase its seasonal service to Florida.

Also, in anticipation of the holiday travel season, Delta airlines recently upgraded to larger jets for a couple of regular daily destinations, including Detroit and Chicago. According to Green Airport officials, the newly merged Delta/Northwest airline has added 172 seats in arrivals and departures from Green.

“We are pleased our airlines continue to add more jet service and additional seats on flights to some of our popular destinations,” said Kevin A. Dillon, president and chief executive officer of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation. “We expect it will continue as the economy rebounds.”

Southwest Airlines’ plans call for mid-March to bring an increase in both weekday and weekend flights to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa in Florida.
