NARRAGANSETT — A Cranston man was charged with a felony drunken-driving count after his car struck and seriously injured a local man who was pedaling a three-wheel recumbent bike on Ocean Road shortly after 7 p.m. Monday, the police said.
Bogdan Nowak, 43, who lives on Ocean Road, was struck on Ocean near Earles Court, according to the police. He was taken to South County Hospital, Wakefield, and then to Rhode Island Hospital, where a spokesman, at the family’s request, would not give details on his condition.
Information from witnesses led to the arrest of James J. Maguire, 22, of 28 Waterman Ave., Cranston, on a charge of driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injury. A passenger in his 1995 Oldsmobile, identified as Matthew R. Kelley, 19, of 61 Waterman Ave., Cranston, drove the car away after the crash, the police allege; he was charged with drunken driving.
Both appeared yesterday in District Court, South Kingstown, where Maguire was ordered held after failing to post bail, said Deputy Police Chief Joseph Little.
Nowak was driving his bike south, at the side of the northbound lane, when he was struck, the police said.
