6 robbed young drug seller, police say

Three men and three youths were arrested Friday after a weeklong investigation by the Westerly police, who said the six arranged to buy marijuana from a 16-year-old boy but instead robbed him at knifepoint, taking the marijuana and $100 in cash.

The 16-year-old was treated at Westerly Hospital for cuts to the neck and hand. He was not charged, Police Chief Edward A. Mello said, because the marijuana was not recovered.

The incident occurred Nov. 15 in the Beach Street area, the police said.

Charged with armed robbery, conspiracy and assault with intent to commit a felony were Westerly residents Jamie J. Castagnaro, 20, James S. Lucy, 18, and Robert K. Austin, 18. They had to appear Friday in District Court, Wakefield.

The three youths, all 16, were held at the Rhode Island Training School before being brought to Family Court.

The police listed the charges against two of the juveniles as first-degree robbery, felony assault, assault with intent to commit a felony and conspiracy. The third was charged with all but the felony assault count.
