NORTH KINGSTOWN –– Police and fire investigators are looking into the death of a man who was pulled from his burning pickup truck at the commuter lot on Boston Neck Road, near Route 138, early Wednesday morning.

State Fire Marshal Jack Chartier said that the fire is not believed to be suspicious. He declined further comment on the cause, pending the autopsy and the investigators’ report.

Firefighters were called to the lot just before 6 a.m., where they found the truck engulfed in flames, said Deputy Fire Chief Jan Sironen. An off-duty firefighter had pulled the man from the front of the truck’s cab, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the North Kingstown police.

The name of the man, who is in his 30s, is being withheld pending the autopsy and notification of next of kin, Chartier said. The police recovered the man’s identification at the scene, which matched the registered owner of the truck, Chartier said.

The fire had burned the front of the truck and into the cab, but the toolbox and truck bed were relatively unscathed.
