WARWICK

Rescuers search Bay for quahogger

WARWICK — Rescue crews were searching the waters of Narragansett Bay Monday evening for a missing quahogger. The search was expected to continue through the night.

The quahogger, whose identity was not released, had called a friend in the afternoon reporting engine trouble and that his 19-foot skiff was taking on some water, said Kurt Blanchard, deputy chief of enforcement for the state Department of Environmental Management.

Search-and-rescue teams, including a Coast Guard helicopter crew, were concentrating their efforts north of Prudence Island and along the western shore of the Bay near Quonset Point, said Blanchard.

The man was known to fish out of Greenwich Cove, said Blanchard.

Absentee rate back to normal at high school

CUMBERLAND — Absenteeism levels were back to normal at Cumberland High School on Monday after threats last week were likely the cause of 55 percent of student body missing school Friday.

School officials discovered threatening graffiti in the high school, which forced district officials to evacuate the campus and cancel all after-school activities and sports events Thursday to search through the students’ lockers.
