Pawtucket man dies in crash on Rte. 1, Foxboro
01:00 AM EST on Thursday, December 28, 2006
FOXBORO, Mass. — A 52-year-old Pawtucket man was killed yesterday afternoon in a three-car crash on Route 1 near Gillette Stadium. The police withheld his name last night pending notification of his family.
The 4:50 p.m. accident started, according to a preliminary investigation by Massachusetts State Police, when Kelley Soucy, 32, of Woonsocket, was stopped in the left lane of Route 1 north waiting to make a turn across southbound traffic into the parking lot of Rodman Collision. As Soucy waited in her Ford pickup, a Chevrolet van driven by John Lomasney Jr., 25, of Plainville, Mass., was heading south on the highway. The police said his van crossed into the northbound lanes and hit Soucy’s pickup.
The pickup spun into the right lane hitting a 2003 Hyundai sedan driven by the Pawtucket man. The man had been in the left lane, but moved into the right in an attempt to avoid the collision, the police said.
He was taken to Norwood Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Soucy and Lomasney had minor injuries and were taken to Sturdy Hospital in Attleboro.
Route 1 north was closed for two hours. The accident is under investigation.
