01:00 AM EDT on Thursday, August 21, 2008
Two motorcyclists were admitted to Rhode Island Hospital Hospital yesterday after accidents that occurred less than two hours apart in Warwick and Cranston.
A 38-year-old man was hospitalized after his motorcycle struck a sign on the Centreville Road (Route 117) exit ramp from northbound Route 95 shortly before 5 p.m., the Warwick police said.
The man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to the police, who declined to identify him immediately. The police said they turned up home addresses for him in Warwick, Johnston and Coventry. It could not be learned whether he had been wearing a helmet.
In Cranston, a Warwick woman lost control of her motorcycle while trying to merge into the northbound lanes of Route 295 from westbound Route 37 at about 6:30 p.m., the state police said.
Patricia Reall, 65, was thrown from the sidecar-equipped motorcycle after it struck the median guardrail, said Lt. Nicholas Tella.
Reall, who was wearing a helmet, was hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Tella said.
