2 men face weapons, drug charges
01:00 AM EDT on Thursday, May 22, 2008
RICHMOND — Two men were arrested on drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop on Route 95 early yesterday, the state police said.
Capt. James Swanberg said troopers clocked the car, a Ford Focus, at 84 mph in a 65-mph zone and pulled it over at about 1:30 a.m.
The troopers noticed a strong smell of marijuana as they approached the car and later found more than six ounces of marijuana in the driver’s compartment and the trunk, he said.
Patrick P. Santora, 27, of 10 Gilead Rd., Waterford, Conn., and Dereck Tyrone Brown, 37, of 253 Wood Ave., Boston, were each charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver, a felony.
They were also charged with possession of weapons other than firearms because they were carrying knives with blades more than three inches long. Santora, the driver, was also charged with driving while in possession of marijuana, Swanberg said.
Both were held without bail following appearances yesterday in District Court, Wakefield. They are due back in court on May 28 for bail hearings, according to court records.
