Oxycontin is taken in break-in
01:00 AM EDT on Thursday, August 14, 2008
CHARLESTOWN — An undetermined amount of the prescription pain medication Oxycontin was taken in a break into Ocean Pharmacy, on Old Post Road, just after midnight yesterday, the police said.
A call from an alarm company sent officers to the pharmacy, but the intruders got away.
The call came in at 12:15 a.m., with the alarm company reporting a burglar alarm, said Lt. Patrick J. McMahon. The nearest officer was at the General Stanton Inn, just down the road, and other officers followed.
“Right now it’s one of the most highly abused prescription drugs out there,” McMahon said of Oxycontin. “Most of our drug arrests are for people that are in possession of this prescription narcotic.”
McMahon said the police later watched a video surveillance tape, on which two people are seen in the store.
