Governor Carcieri together with the Rhode Island Department of Health have announced the Second Annual Governor’s Awards for Wellness Innovation. The program recognizes organizations that have developed creative programs or policies that affect wellness areas in tobacco control, seat belt use, healthy weight, physical activity and nutrition. To apply for the award, e-mail www.health.ri.gov/wellnessaward or call (401) 222-7637. Application deadline is Aug. 31.
Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, together with the American Cancer Society, will hold a Look Good, Feel Better seminar, Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The program helps cancer patients cope with the side effects of cancer treatment. To register, call (401) 729-2789.
The Malchar Chiropractic and Wellness Center, 33 College Hill Rd., Building 30C, Warwick, will hold free classes for their patients, families and friends. The classes include spinal care, good posture, nutrition, reflexology and massage therapy: Oct. 12, Nov. 17 and Dec. 1, from 5 to 6 p.m. and Sept. 8 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. For information, call (401) 826-7600.
