Oliver Lucier, a seventh grader at Broad Rock Middle School, in South Kingstown, listens to a question Friday in the 2009 Rhode Island Geographic Bee, at Rhode Island College in Providence. He beat Christian Cherau, an eight grader at Barrington Middle School, in the final round, in a tie breaker, by answering the question: To see Sandro Botticelli’s famous painting, The Birth of Venus, you would travel to which Italian city located upriver from Pisa? The answer is: Florence.
