01:00 AM EST on Sunday, March 9, 2008
PROVIDENCE — A pedestrian was killed early yesterday in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood and the police are looking for a dark, late model sedan that struck the man and left the scene.
Adolfo Gonzalez, 54, who had no permanent address, was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m., about 10 minutes after the car hit him near Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 901 Atwells Ave., the police said.
The location is between Academy and Mount Pleasant avenues.
The police said Gonzalez was wearing a cowboy hat and sunglasses.
Investigators are searching for a dark sedan, possibly a gray Dodge Magnum, that left the scene and turned on Covell Street, just a few yards from the accident.
The police said that the car might have heavy damage to the front end, hood and windshield.
