Police seek driver in Mineral Spring crash
The driver of a Chevy Impala whom the police say drove toward an officer who stopped him Thursday night, then fled in the wrong direction on Mineral Spring Avenue, apparently causing a multi-vehicle crash, remains at large.
The police have issued an arrest warrant for Jason Tallo, 24, of 36 Crocus St., Warwick, Maj. Paul M. Martellini said Wednesday. They have also alerted Warwick police about the warrant, Martellini said.
Tallo is charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon, which Martellini said was for driving toward the officer, who had stopped Tallo for speeding and weaving back and forth on Smith Street. He is also charged with three felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident that caused damage to three other vehicles in the ensuing crash, according to Martellini.
Tallo also faces misdemeanor motor-vehicle charges, such as reckless driving and eluding the police, Martellini said.
“We are actively pursuing him,” Martellini said. “We’ve spoken to some of the family members and notified them we have a warrant for the arrest, and we’d like him to turn himself in. He’s very well aware that we are looking for him.”

Man charged with intent to commit murder
A man was arraigned on a charge of assault with intent to commit murder Wednesday after he allegedly stabbed a man Tuesday evening on Pothier Street in the Manville section, according to the police.
Capt. Raymond Bousquet said that Jacob McKenna, 19, was arrested at his Woonsocket home around 3:25 a.m., about five hours after the victim was stabbed in the street. Bousquet declined to identify the victim except to say he was 28 and a Lincoln resident. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where his condition was not known.
Bousquet said the man was able to go to a friend’s house to call the police. He said the stabbing occurred after a dispute.
McKenna was held overnight and arraigned before Judge Michael A. Higgins in District Court, Providence. He was ordered held in $25,000 bail pending an appearance in Superior Court on Dec. 16.

Car hits back of stopped school bus
A car driven by an 18-year-old Johnston man collided with the back of a school bus as it stopped to pick up its first student Wednesday morning shortly before 7 a.m.
No one was injured, and no charges have been filed, Deputy Police Chief David DeCesare said Wednesday morning.
Michael Branca, 18, of Springfield Street, was driving a 2002 tan Chrysler on Greenville Avenue near Smokey Drive when the bus in front of him illuminated its flashing red lights, DeCesare said. Branca attempted to stop, but there was heavy rain at the time, according to the police.
The car slid under the back of the bus, causing significant damage to the front of the car, DeCesare said. The bus didn’t appear to sustain much damage, DeCesare said.
The bus driver was the only one on the bus at the time of the collision, DeCesare said.

Pedestrian knocked down by car
A resident in her 60s remained at Rhode Island Hospital Wednesday morning after she was struck by a car Tuesday evening on Lonsdale Avenue.
An accident reconstruction team and detectives say the woman stepped off the sidewalk and the driver didn’t see her.
The driver –– a 47-year-old woman –– told the police she did not see the pedestrian but stopped immediately when she heard a loud noise, Capt. James J. Mendonca said.
When she got out of her car, the driver saw the older woman lying on the sidewalk, according to the police.
The accident happened at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection with Cleveland Street, according to Central Falls Fire Battalion Chief Stephen Ouellette.
The police are waiting to speak with the woman who was struck before they release her name, Mendonca said. He said she was in stable condition.
