01:00 AM EDT on Saturday, March 14, 2009
PAWTUCKET –– A three-alarm fire heavily damaged a vacant three-story apartment building at 71 Baldwin St. last night.
Neighbors said the gas company had shut off service after the last tenant moved out last week.
Flames were shooting from the second floor when firefighters arrived shortly after 8 p.m. Fire officials said it appeared the fire started in the basement.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
