Three cans of food for humans will be the “fee” to get your dog, cat or ferret a rabies vaccination at the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday in the RISPCA auditorium, 186 Amaral St., Riverside.
Sponsors of the “almost free” clinic caution that pet owners who bring food that has passed its expiration date will be charged an $8 fee to vaccinate a pet. If pets are to receive a two-year vaccine, owners must provide proof of a previous rabies vaccination. Otherwise, pets will receive a one- year vaccination.
All pets must be leashed or in a carrier at all times. The donated food will benefit the Bread of Life Food Pantry is a joint effort of six East Providence churches.
Syndicated newspaper columnist and author E. J. Dionne will lecture on the future of religion Nov. 8 at 6 p.m.at Central Congregational Church, 296 Angell St., Providence.
Dionne, who writes for the op-ed page of the Washington Post, is a Fall River native and a Portsmouth Abby graduate who at one time was the Vatican correspondent for the New York Times. Dionne is a fellow at the Brookings Institution, where he works with Darrell West, a former Brown political science professor who is now Brookings’ vice president. West sponsors the annual lectures at Central.
Learn techniques to care for your family records and books at a two-part series offered by the Rhode Island Historical Society Library, Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the library, 121 Hope St. The second session will take place in the spring.
The cost of registration, $30 for RIHS members, $35 for non-members, includes an archiving starter kit with sample archival materials.
