Church sponsors Christmas giving project
If you are looking for a new kind of Christmas giving project, fill a shoebox with soap, pens and pencils and a fuzzy stuffed animal to be sent to needy children in another country. Operation Christmas Child, as the shoebox project is called, is under way in Rhode Island. Members of the Hope Valley First Baptist Church recently filled more than 100 shoeboxes for shipping and will collect shoeboxes filled by scout troops, local businesses, and families in the South County area until Friday. Acceptable items include non-liquid hygiene products, school supplies and small toys. Groups or individuals who wish to participate may e-mail Wendy Bruce at wjbltd@gmail.com or the Rhode Island area coordinator, Bob Isaacson, at rlisa9@cox.net. Special shoeboxes to fill can be picked up at the Hope Valley First Baptist Church or the Quidnessett Baptist Church in North Kingstown and also at Morning Star, Bald Hill Road, Warwick. More information on Operation Christmas Child can be found on www.samaritanspurse.org.
