Tenants displaced in fire
01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, May 11, 2008
NORTH PROVIDENCE — An apartment fire at the 24-unit Princeton Place Apartments on Smith Street yesterday was quickly brought under control and no one was injured, according to Battalion Chief Len Albanese.
Fire was contained to a second-floor apartment and the one above it, Albanese said. Tenants of those apartments were displaced.
“You had the potential for a lot of fire spread,” Albanese said, “but we kept it in the apartment and the one above it.”
The fire was reported at about 2 p.m. at the complex at 1370 Smith St. Occupants got out of the building on their own, Albanese said. Albanese said the cause is under investigation. It started in a second-floor bedroom.
The building’s owner could not be determined yesterday. An answering machine picked up for a phone number listed on a For Rent sign.
