Scituate girl eludes abductor
01:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, May 13, 2008
SCITUATE — The police yesterday released additional information on a man who on Thursday allegedly tried to abduct a 13-year-old girl who was jogging on William Henry Road at Brandy Brook Road.
Capt. David M. Randall said the girl broke free when the man tried to pull her into a white van, and hid in nearby woods until the van left. He said she reported the incident to school officials on Friday.
The girl described the man as white, with short blond hair. He was between 17 and 22 years old, wore a white T-shirt with faded red lettering on the right chest, and tan cargo-style shorts. He had a thin, gold chain necklace. He was clean-shaven and lacked piercings. He had a tattoo on his left bicep.
The police released an artist’s conception of the tattoo, showing it as the letters S and E on a square, blue background with a squiggly black line at the bottom.
Randall said that the driver “complimented her on her appearance” and asked where the girl lived and how old she was.
He said the van had black bumpers front and back, and a single back door without windows. A panel behind the driver’s door window appeared to be painted a different color from the rest of the vehicle.
Randall said that anyone with information about the driver or van should call the Scituate police at (401) 821-5900.
