Water main breaks in N. Providence
01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, November 1, 2009
NORTH PROVIDENCE –– A water main break Saturday left hundreds of households without water for much of the afternoon.
Mayor Charles Lombardi said Saturday night he had been notified that the pipe was repaired and that water was being turned back on as of 7:45 p.m.
The break, discovered at about 2 p.m., happened on Douglas Avenue, about 150 feet north of Mineral Spring Avenue, according to the mayor.
A recording at the Providence Water Supply phone line said a “large number of homes and businesses” were affected on Douglas Avenue to as far west as Smithfield Road, as far east as Marblehead Avenue, as far north as Countryside Drive, and as far south as Marconi Street.
As to the cause of the break? “They’re not sure at this point” Lombardi said Saturday night.
