A nonpartisan, peace-building organization will join scholars and students from Mainland China, Taiwan and the United States for the fifth annual Strait Talk Symposium hosted at Brown University from Nov. 9 to 12. Events are open to the public.

Strait Talk’s goal is to engage the leaders of tomorrow in dialogue about pressing international issues. Student delegates from China, Taiwan and the United States convene at Brown to engage in interactive conflict resolution sessions on the Taiwan Strait issue.

Three experts will weigh in on the debate over health-care reform at the first in a series of community conversations sponsored by Jamestown’s Central Baptist Church. The program is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at the church, 99 Narragansett Ave.

The panelists will be Michael Fine, managing director of HealthAccessRI, a statewide network of family practices that provide affordable primary care to the uninsured; Christine Ferguson, a research professor at George Washington University’s School of Public Health and Health Services and Louis Giancola, president and chief executive officer of South County Hospital Healthcare System.

Catholic Social Services of Fall River Inc. will hold an information session for individuals and families interested in domestic newborn or international adoption. The session will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, at Catholic Social Services, 1600 Bay St., Fall River.

There is no charge to attend the session and refreshments will be served.
