Memorial Day commemorations

SUNDAY/ MONDAY
Warwick. Avenue of Flags, Pawtuxet Memorial Park, 100 Harrison Ave. 781-4600. More than 300 large 5-foot by 9-foot American flags displayed along the streets that line the park. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Free.
SUNDAY
Bristol. Memorial Service at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, 480 Metacom Ave. 9:30 a.m.
Burrillville. Memorial Service, Burrillville High School’s Veterans Auditorium, 425 East Ave., Harrisville. 1 p.m.
North Scituate. Ceremony, 11 a.m., at Scituate Civil War Monument, next to North Scituate Library.
Warren. Ceremony, 9 a.m., Vietnam Veterans Memorial Honor Roll, Route 136 and Market Street.
MONDAY
Boston. Museum of Fine Arts Open House, 465 Huntington Ave. (617) 267-9300, mfa.org. Event with East Meets West features dance performances, a lecture about Venetian art, family programs and tours. 10 a.m.-4:45 p.m.
Bristol. Parade and Ceremonies begin at North Burial Ground, Hope Street, 9:30 a.m. Parade forms and steps off at 9:45 a.m., proceeds south on Hope Street to the Bristol War Veterans Honor Roll Garden for exercises and speaking program. In case of rain, the parade will be cancelled and the exercises/speaking program will take place at the Bristol Train of Artillery, State Street, at 10 a.m.
Burrillville. Memorial Services at Berard-Desjarlais Monument, Victory Highway and Route 7, Nasonville, 9:30 a.m., and at Freedom Park, Harrisville, 11 a.m.
Central Falls. Ceremony conducted by the Central Falls Veterans Council begins at 11 a.m. at Moshassuk Cemetery, on to Quinn Square, to Veterans Memorial at Adams Library, Central Street, to the Notre Dame Monument, Broad Street, and ending on Charles Street and Roosevelt Avenue, where a wreath will be thrown into the Blackstone River in honor of veterans lost at sea. A van will be available for those who wish to ride the route.
East Greenwich. Parade steps off at 10 a.m. from Swift Gym and Academy Field, 111 Peirce St., and ends with ceremonies at East Greenwich Town Hall, 125 Main St.
Exeter. Exercises, Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail (Route 2), at the World War II Memorial Monument located off Memorial Drive. 1 p.m. Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 325, Ceremony at Vietnam Veterans Memorial, rear of cemetery, 7 a.m.
Foster. Parade, 8:45 a.m., steps off from Foster Center and North roads, ends at town memorial for wreath laying.
Newport. Ceremonies, Sorer Park, by the Causeway to Goat Island, 11 a.m., and on the lawn of Newport City Hall, Broadway, noon. Containers available at the ceremony for the deposit of worn/faded/unserviceable U.S. flags. World War I Monument Tower in Miantonomi Park open 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting. Adults and families are welcome to climb, but it is a strenuous climb both to the top of the hill, and to the top of the tower. Wreath laying, 10 a.m., Marine monument at Perrotti Park, America’s Cup Avenue. Marine Maj. Mark Franco, a student at the Naval War College, will be the guest speaker.
North Kingstown. Wreath-laying ceremonies, North Kingstown Town Hall and at Veterans Memorial Park, 9 a.m. Parade forms at 9 a.m. at Wilson Park and steps off at 10 a.m. to West Main Street (Route 1A south) to Brown Street, onto Phillips Street and then onto Tower Hill Road (Route 1 south) for concluding ceremonies at the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial on the grounds of Elm Grove Cemetery, 11 a.m. In case of rain, ceremonies at 9 and 11 will go on as planned; parade cancelled.
Pawtucket. Ceremonies conducted by the Pawtucket Veterans Council at the Slater Park Shell at 9 a.m.; Hiker Monument at 9:15 a.m.; the Unknown Military Dead Monument at the Mineral Spring Avenue Cemetery, Conant Street, at 9:30 a.m., and at Veterans’ Memorial Park, Roosevelt Avenue and Exchange Street, at 11 a.m.
Providence. Presentation, EPOCH Assisted Living on Blackstone Boulevard, Providence. Dr. Steven Kane, a local psychologist and music buff, gives a presentation in celebration of Memorial Day and in honor of soldiers who fought in World War II. 3 p.m. Free.
Scituate. Parade forms at 10 a.m. at Berkander Field and Institute Lane and steps off at 10:30 a.m. from Institute Lane and Main Street; proceeds west on Main Street to Silk Lane, to Greenville Road and to the Congregational Church at the Village Green for ceremonies.
South Kingstown. Parade, forms at 10 a.m. on Holley Street, to Main Street, through downtown Wakefield, down High Street, ends at Saugatucket Park with memorial ceremony at 11 a.m.
Swansea. Parade leaves at 1 p.m. from St. Francis of Assisi Church, parking lot on Gardner’s Neck Road and proceeds to Wilbur Avenue, ending at Bluffs Community Center. Ceremony for fallen soldiers, 10 a.m., Town Hall. The family of Army Sgt. Kyle J. Harrington, killed in Iraq on Jan. 24, will be in attendance.
Warren. Ceremony, 7:45 a.m., town wharf on Water Street, honoring naval and military personnel lost at sea in service to their country. Parade, 8:15 a.m., step off from town common, ending at South Burial Ground.
Westerly. Parade, 9:30 a.m., downtown.
West Greenwich. Parade steps off at 1:30 p.m. from the Coventry/West Greenwich line, Route 102, and proceeds south to the West Greenwich Town Hall (Route 102) for a ceremony. 397-8058.
West Warwick. Ceremony, 9:30 a.m., Veterans Memorial Park, 2 Legion Way. Guest speaker is Lt. Col. Leonard Gerry, a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan.
