Two fined for underage drinking
01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, June 22, 2008
JAMESTOWN — Two people charged with underage possession of alcohol at a party on Aquidneck Court pleaded no contest Friday in District Court, Newport, while a third pleaded not guilty.
Zachary H. Hanners, 19, of 10 Coulter St., and Elizabeth J. Gladding, 19, of 242 America Way, were each fined $150 and told to perform 10 hours of community service after their no-contest pleas, according to court records.
Kevin Pomeroy, 20, of 190 Pheasant Run, North Kingstown, pleaded not guilty and is due back in court on July 11 for a pretrial conference.
Officers responded to the party at about 12:30 a.m. on May 31 after receiving a noise complaint. The gathering, at 5 Aquidneck Court, drew nearly 100 people, the police said.
Some partygoers fled into the woods when officers arrived, while others dropped their cans and bottles as the officers’ presence was announced. The police issued summonses to Hanners, Gladding and Pomeroy, requiring their appearances in court Friday.
