SCITUATE — Youth United for Global Action and Awareness (YUGA), a leadership initiative for high school students, will hold an international summer camp July 19-25 at Camp Aldersgate in North Scituate to discuss global issues including poverty, HIV/AIDS and climate change.
The camp will draw students from Japan, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Canada, according to Eric Pope, spokesman for YUGA’s parent organization, the nonprofit PLAN USA, based in Warwick, which fosters the healthy development of children worldwide, particularly in third-world countries.
Scholarships are still available for the camp, although the deadline for applications is today. Interested students may apply online at http://www.planusa.org/yea/yuga_camp.php. A scholarship application is also available online at http://www.planusa.org/docs/yea/campscholarshipform2009.pdf. Those seeking additional information may contact Pope at (401) 738-5600, ext. 1179.
