PROVIDENCE –– The 18-year-old Coventry man charged with strangling an acquaintance in her apartment at Cathedral Square on Nov. 7 has agreed to waive extradition from Connecticut and will be arraigned Monday in District Court, Providence, according to the attorney general’s office.
Travis Garcia was apprehended by the police in Clinton, Conn., after he crashed the white Taurus that belonged to the victim, Jeannine Garcia, into a parked tractor-trailer early Sunday while attempting to elude police who were chasing him for speeding. After obtaining the name and address of the car’s owner, Providence police discovered Jeannine Garcia’s body inside her apartment.
Garcia was arraigned Friday in New Haven Superior Court on fugitive from justice charges, which were later dropped after Garcia agreed to waive extradition and return to Rhode Island. Besides facing a charge of murder, Garcia will be presented as an alleged probation violator, according to the attorney general’s office.
