01:00 AM EST on Sunday, November 11, 2007
COVENTRY — Local police discovered a pipe bomb during a drug raid at 30 Read Ave. on Friday night.
The state bomb squad and an agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called to the scene, where the bomb was “rendered safe,” according to a statement from Coventry police Lt. Thomas E. Beaulieu.
No charges were immediately filed in relation to the bomb, but two men were arrested on drug counts.
Mark N. Pare, 21, was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to deliver and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
David MacIntyre, 44, was charged with possession of cocaine, larceny and fraudulent use of a credit card.
The police yesterday would not discuss the quantity of drugs seized, but said the raid was the result of a two-month investigation.
The investigation is continuing.
