Boater rescues pair of kayakers who capsized in Greenwich Bay
01:00 AM EDT on Monday, May 12, 2008
Two kayakers were treated for mild hypothermia yesterday afternoon after their kayaks capsized in Greenwich Bay, off the Warwick shoreline
Coast Guard Petty Officer Trevor Shiel said the Castle Hill station, in Newport, received a call about 3 p.m. reporting two people in distress about a half-mile from shore.
By the time Coast Guard personnel arrived, Shiel said, a local boater had rescued the two –– identified only as a 47-year-old Massachusetts woman and a 26-year-old Rhode Island man. He said the Coast Guard boat took them to shore, where Warwick rescue personnel examined them.
