R.I. beach closings
01:00 AM EDT on Saturday, July 4, 2009
Most Rhode Island beaches should be open Saturday, but water quality –– following a week of stormy weather — may change throughout the day. So beachgoers are asked to call (401) 222-2751, or visit the Health Department’s beach closures page, www.ribeaches.org/closures.cfm, before heading out.
Information will be updated through the weekend as conditions change, said Ernest Julian, chief of the Health Department’s Office of Food Protection, which monitors pollution levels at all beaches in the state.
As of Friday afternoon, Scarborough State Beach in Narragansett and the Camp Fuller YMCA Beach in South Kingstown had reopened. Third Beach in Middletown, Gorton Pond in Warwick and the private Watch Hill District beach in Westerly were closed Friday.
