PROVIDENCE — Attorneys general from around the country will be in Providence this week for their annual summer meeting.
The National Association of Attorneys General will hold the four-day conference from Tuesday to Friday at The Westin Providence hotel. The event includes visits from the top legal authorities in Canada and Mexico, as well as a delegation of prosecutors from Taiwan.
At the conference’s State Dinner Thursday, at Rosecliff, in Newport, Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch will assume the presidency of the National Association of Attorneys General. He will be the first attorney general from the Ocean State to serve a one-year term as head of the organization.
“I’m honored to further the mission of NAAG as its president, but even more honored to work with my colleagues on issues so important to propelling justice and advancing the quality of life in our country,” Lynch said in a statement.
Panel discussions during the conference will feature representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Justice, and professors from Yale University, Pepperdine University and Stanford University. Freelance journalist Robert Bryce, author of the book Gusher of Lies: The Dangerous Delusions of ‘Energy Independence’, will also give a speech.
Hall of Fame baseball player Cal Ripken Jr. will make a special appearance on behalf of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation’s Badges for Baseballs Program, which was established in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Justice.
