State police detective laid to rest

Members of the Rhode Island State Police enter SS. John & Paul Church in Coventry for the Mass of Christian burial for Detective Sgt. James D. Dougherty Jr., right, who was killed in a car crash on March 14 while returning home to West Greenwich during a torrential rain. Hundreds of state and local police and fire department representatives marched in a processional in honor of the fallen officer. State police from Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts marched in honor of Dougherty, and stood at attention outside the church. At left, the West Warwick Police Honor Guard passes during the processional.
