The Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra kicks off its season this weekend with music of Bach. The Chorale, now in its 53rd year, will be performing Cantata 191 (“Gloria in Excelsis Deo”), The Third Suite (with its “Air for the G String”) and the “Magnificat.”
The concert takes place Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, 30 Fenner St., Providence.
“These works will give our audience a taste of the richness and variety of Bach’s compositions,” said Edward Markward, the conductor and artistic director of the chorale.
Soloists for the concert are soprano Jean Danton, mezzo Barbara Youmans, tenor Frederic Scheff and baritone Rene de la Garza.
Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door, and $20 for seniors, $7 for students. Call (401) 521-5670 for information and (401) 621-6123 to order tickets. You can also log on to www.arttixri.com.
