‘Perfect fit’ for R.I. film

Vanessa Redgrave, Natasha Richardson, Meryl Streep, Toni Colette, Patrick Wilson and Eileen Atkins are trooping into Tiverton to shoot scenes for the movie Evening. Production on the film at a private residence on Highland Road began last week and is expected to continue through late next week, according to the film’s publicist, Amy Johnson. Not all the stars are on the set at the same time.

Johnson said they will be shooting both interiors and exteriors of the house, which belongs to Redgrave’s character, Ann Grant, in the film which is based on Susan Minot’s novel. Both day and night filming will take place at the house and at other private residential locations later in Newport. Filming, which is expected to take about eight weeks, is closed to the press, Johnson added.

Minot’s book is about a woman who looks back on her romantic and emotional life while on her deathbed. Claire Danes will play Redgrave’s Ann Grant in flashback sequences set in the 1950s. Although the book is set in Maine, Johnson said the filmmakers decided “it was too difficult, logistically, to get a crew up there. But this area has the same look and feel of the book — the sailboats, the WASPy feel, the wealth. It’s a perfect fit.”

Thailand’s military coup this week interrupted filming of Nicolas Cage’s new movie, an action thriller being shot in Bangkok, a news report said yesterday.

The Chinese news Web site Sina.com said Cage had prepared a private jet to leave the country on short notice.

Hong Kong-born twin brothers Danny and Oxide Pang are remaking their 1999 film, Bangkok Dangerous, Sina.com said.

When news of the coup on Tuesday night reached Cage and the crew, they were sent back to their hotels.

Brotherhood actress Annabeth Gish and According to Jim actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley are both expecting little bundles of joy.

Williams-Paisley and husband, country star Brad Paisley, are expecting their baby in February, while Gish and hubby Wade Allen will precede the other couple by a month, reports People. It will be the first child for each of the couples.

Paisley announced the news during a Tuesday phone call with Country Music Television.

He married Williams, 35, in March 2003 and was inspired to write the song “Little Moments” about their relationship. Paisley is currently touring the U.S. after having released his latest album, Time Well Wasted, last year.

Williams-Paisley stars as Dana on ABC’s According to Jim. Her breakout role was as the blushing daughter in the 1991 big-screen remake of Father of the Bride. Her other films include Father of the Bride II and How to Eat Fried Worms.

Gish, 35, met Allen, a martial arts expert, while she played Special Agent Monica Reyes opposite Robert Patrick on The X-Files.

She’s also known for portraying President Bartlet’s eldest daughter on The West Wing. On Showtime’s Brotherhood, she plays fictional Rhode Island State Representative Tommy Caffee’s wife Eileen, who struggles with her weakness for drugs and infidelity.
