SOMERSET — A man who claimed he was just cleaning out some old items from his house was arrested Monday night, charged with two counts of felony assault and one misdemeanor count of domestic assault and battery.
Jason L. Moniz, 35, of 2980 Riverside Ave., was taken into custody after the police were called to 67 Gay St., where they found scattered belongings.
Lesley A. Smith, 45, told the police she had had a telephone argument with Moniz, her boyfriend. He then kept calling her, telling her he was trashing her house and throwing her belongings outside and into the street.
Smith went to the house with a 36-year-old friend and found that Moniz was responsible for the mess. She told the police he had throw some belongings in the pool and had spit on her.
The girlfriend said Moniz tossed a tool box at her, striking her, and, while holding a large frying pan, threatened to smash her windshield.
According to the police report, Moniz denied attacking the women and said he was just cleaning out some old items.
He’s due back in court Aug. 6 for a pretrial hearing.
In another domestic case, Sarah J. Charest, 26, of 67 Dunham St., Attleboro, was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery after she allegedly struck her mother, Beverly Simmons, 58, of 150 Maple St., on Sunday just before 7 p.m.
Simmons said Charest slapped her across the face and bent her glasses during a dispute over Charest’s unwillingness to help with dinner.
The daughter denied striking her mother, complaining that Simmons had described her using a sexually derogatory term for a woman, and the insult was made in front of her 5-year-old daughter.
Charest told the police she got out of her seat and, as she walked past Simmons, the mother got up from her chair and hit her face against Charest’s shoulder.
Charest is due back in court Aug. 18.
