Somerset woman, 43, faces drug, domestic assault charges

01:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, May 13, 2008

SOMERSET — Barbara J. Pimental, 43, of 210 Dwelly Rd., was arrested for domestic assault and battery Saturday morning, her second arrest in less than 48 hours.

The first came Thursday afternoon after the police were called to 1300 Wilbur Ave. because a car driven by Pimental had struck a telephone pole. A witness told the police that Pimental’s car had been going all over the road before hitting the pole.

Pimental, who had a passenger in the car, complained to Patrolman Scott Comfrey that something was wrong with her steering.

But she failed a field impairment test; when the officer asked her to count from 86 down to 68, she missed several numbers.

After a search, the police seized 83 bags of suspected heroin. Pimental was charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, operating under the influence of drugs, conspiracy to violate drug laws, operating negligently or recklessly as to endanger, and violating drug laws near a school because the site of the crash was 1,000 feet from Wilbur School, according to the police.

Then, Saturday just before noon, her husband, James, called the police to have her removed from their home because she was allegedly causing a disturbance.

When Patrolman Raymond Almeida Jr. arrived, he saw Pimental’s hand around her husband’s throat. Almeida had to threaten her with pepper spray before she stepped back.

She had apparently destroyed bedroom windows and a bedroom mirror during the incident.

Pimental was charged with domestic assault and battery, malicious destruction of property and disorderly conduct.

She was ordered to undergo a medical evaluation.
