Seekonk Library Weight Program
01:00 AM EST on Tuesday, January 6, 2009
SEEKONK - Seekonk Library will begin a weight program called “S. W. A. P.” (Successful Weight (loss) Advice Program) Jan. 17 at 11:30 a.m. The program is designed to serve as a free forum for local residents who have previously battled the weight loss war and lost. The recent evaluation by Oprah Winfrey that she, too, regained previously lost weight inspired the library staff to create this support group to encourage all participants to wage the weight loss war together.
The group intends to meet the needs of participants who want to discuss weight loss issues, including the frustrating cycle of losing and gaining pounds and having weight yo-yo up and down. The focus will be on being supportive of all participants, sharing and “swapping” success stories, recipes and advice, encouraging positive feedback, hosting speakers and taking occasional nature walks in the park behind the library.
At the initial meeting, participants will discuss what day and time to meet in the future. Membership is open to everyone and participants can be participating in any weight loss program because SWAP supports all dieting methods, as long as they are healthy and successful. There will be no “weigh-ins” at these meetings. Participants may voluntarily account for their progress but will not be required to do so. The tone of all meetings will be informal encouragement. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
