Before and After School Care Program: The Newman YMCA, 472 Taunton Ave., offers care before school and after school for children ages 5- to 13-years-old. Quality, licensed child care is provided for the following schools - Rehoboth Elementary and Middle School, Seekonk Elementary and Middle Schools and, in East Providence, Myron J. Francis, Kent Heights, Orlo, Silver Spring, Hennessey, Whiteknact and Martin Middle School.
The Y offers a safe and stimulating environment which includes enrichment programming, recreation activities, homework assistance, arts and crafts as well as indoor and outdoor sporting activities. Every afternoon children are provided with a healthy snack, served with juice and water as the primary drink. Also during vacation weeks, the Y offers a variety of activities to keep children busy and active while they are out of school.
The Newman YMCA accepts State Funded children as well as; KIDCAMP and YMCA Financial Assistance is available for those who qualify. For information, call Deb Davies, School Age Child Care Director, (508) 336-7103.

Winter Sports Leagues: Newman YMCA, 472 Taunton Ave., is offering an assortment of leagues and programs for all ages. Youth programs from ages 3 to 12 include basketball leagues, Sports Medley and Mighty Mite sports. Teen programs include volleyball league, girls and boys basketball leagues and Velocity Training. Adult programs being offered are co-ed volleyball league and men’s basketball league. Registration is underway. Winter programs: Registration for winter programs at the Newman YMCA is underway. The Y serves East Providence, Rehoboth, Seekonk and surrounding communities.
The following programs start Jan. 5 and run seven weeks through Feb. 22:
Preschool – swim lessons, gymnastics, storytime art, parent/child sports medley, parent/child basketball, Mighty Mikes sports, gym and swim.
School age youth – swim lessons, gymnastics, dance, tennis (in the gym), girls and boys basketball leagues divided by age; babysitting course, karate and fitness programs.
New for school age - Lego Engineering for ages 5 to 7 and 8 to 14, which teaches blueprinting, creative problem solving and more through bridge, skyscraper, tunnels and vehicle projects; Inline Skating Lessons for ages 5 to 14 divided by age group and skill level beginners through intermediate. Must bring your own skates and protective gear. Taught in the Gym; and Challenger Sports Medley, Dance and Fitness unique opportunities for children with special needs. Progressive lesson plans designed to give children the extra more individualized instruction and a chance to increase their social network of friends.
Crafty Kids - For ages 5 and up, create new projects each week.
Teen/Tween - Girls and boys basketball for ages 12 to 15; Teen Personal Training; Dance; 3 on 3 Basketball for ages 16 and up plus.
New Velocity Training - For ages 13 to 18 designed for the serious athlete who wants to increase their core strength, speed and agility. Training is specialized for each sport and helps participants to keep in shape between seasons. Classes are taught by the Y’s sports director who has an Exercise Science Degree.
Register also for School Vacation Camp Week which features basketball clinics, swimming, sports, art and more.
