01:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, July 8, 2008
REHOBOTH — Brian Matthew McGuire, 40, of 206 Moulton St., was charged with indecent assault and battery and unrelated weapons violations over the weekend after an 18-year-old Rehoboth woman told the police she had been sexually assaulted in her home last Friday afternoon about 4:30.
When the police went to McGuire’s home, his wife gave them a .357-caliber automatic pistol owned by her husband, which was unlicensed and stored in an unsafe manner, according to a police statement.
McGuire turned himself in about 9:30 p.m. Friday after speaking to the police several times via cell phone, the police said.
In addition to the charge of indecent assault and battery on a person age 14 or older, he faces charges of unlawful possession of a firerarm and improper storage of a large-capacity firearm.
McGuire was held on $1,000 cash bail pending arraignment yesterday in District Court, Taunton.
The police said yesterday afternoon that they did not yet have information on McGuire’s arraignment.
