Fall River: High School Showcase

01:00 AM EST on Tuesday, February 10, 2009

FALL RIVER - The Mayor’s Office and Office of the Superintendent of Fall River Public Schools will sponsor the B.M.C. Durfee High School “Showcase” Feb. 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Robert J. Nagle Auditorium. In keeping with the evening’s theme of a puzzle, participants will receive a blank puzzle piece which they will be asked to write on [the back of] the various places where they see themselves or their organization connecting to the school and the community. The puzzle pieces will be later pieced together and put on display at City Hall.

The “Showcase” is designed to increase the public’s awareness of the current programs offered at B.M.C. Durfee High School and the positive partnerships that have been forged between the school and the local community to implement and sustain them. The event provides the opportunity to enhance current collaborative partnerships while encouraging and securing additional commitments for integrated collaboration between the corporate, non-profit, public and education sectors.

Confirmed “Showcase” presenters as of today include: Alternative Education Programs, Bristol Workforce Investment Board, Durfee Academy, Durfee High School Departments, Fall River Career Center, Fall River Youth Services, Fall River Police Department, MY TURN, Old Colony YMCA, Peaceful Coalition, School-to-Career Partnerships, and SMILES Mentoring Program.

The committee will be reaching out to local, state and federal government officials, local educational institutions and businesses, as well as many community-based organizations to actively participate and get involved with a school project. The event is free and open to the public. For information, contact Lee Souza, Guidance Department, (508) 675-8100 ext. 1197 or by e-mail at lsouza@fallriverschools.org.
